Chapel Hill Solar Farm

Unlocking enough clean domestic energy to meet the equivalent annual needs of 19,894 Worcestershire homes.

The Need For Solar

The UK has made a legally binding commitment to achieve a net zero fully decarbonised power system by 2035. This can only be achieved with the adoption and roll-out of reliable, affordable, clean energy sources such as solar.

Malvern Hills District Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and published a report called Destination Zero, setting a target for the council to become carbon neutral by 2030 and the wider district by 2050. Solar farms, such as Chapel Hill Solar Farm, will make a meaningful contribution to the local, and national, climate commitments.

Our Proposals

  • Chapel Hill Solar Farm would be located on either side of Worcester and Malvern Road near Bastonford, Powick and Leigh Stinton. The site lies within the Parishes of Bransford, Newland and Powick..
  • The planned solar farm will generate over 83GWh of electricity per year.
  • This would provide the equivalent energy needs of 19,894 Worcestershire homes and CO2 savings of over 1.7 million tonnes which equates to taking more than 1 million cars off the road over the lifetime of the project.
  • We are also planning to install batteries to store electricity which can be fed back into the local energy network to help balance the grid at times of high demand.
  • As part of our public consultation, we will hold an in-person consultation event on 2nd November from 2:30pm – 6:30pm @ The Elgar Suite, Bank House Hotel, WR6 5JD. The consultation period will close on 20th November 2023, when we will then take some time to process feedback from members of the public, councillors, and other interested groups before finalising our planning application.
